The First and Last Inn in the News

The Paranormal Research Organisation (P.R.O) is dedicated to professional and authoritative research into ghosts and other supernatural phenomena, in the South West of England.

In October 2005, they were apporached by ITV Westcountry to do a feature on the haunted history of Sennen's 'Famous First and Last Inn'.

Here is a summary of their report.

Summary of an Investigation at The First & Last Inn, Sennen
6th / 7th October 2005
First and Last Inn, Sennon

We ended up spending two nights here at what is a very historic and exciting venue. On Thursday the 6th we were joined by Sarah Lillicrap and a cameraman from ITV Westcountry and then on the Friday we were joined by a presenter / cameraman from BBC Spotlight who stayed for the whole all night investigation.

The investigation itself produced some very, very interesting results. One team member had the back of his neck scratched in an area which many of the team had felt unnerved in and it transpired was the most active room. Also the manageress after the investigation proved to be incredibly pleased with our findings – which apparently confirmed much of what she herself had witnessed or learnt. This was particularly interesting because we could not have had access to this information.

We also learnt that the last team to investigate had been very unprofessional and through their actions had caused a ban on such investigations (this is a local group who seem to be following us and Most Haunted around and offending just about everywhere they go. This is such a shame as we work so hard to build an exemplary reputation and to treat our hosts with complete respect!). We are therefore only too delighted that through our reputation we were permitted to attend what is indeed an incredible place.

At one stage during a darkness vigil; we asked is a presence could knock, tap or do something to acknowledge us being here… at the time nothing was heard but synchronised watched revealed that another group in another place heard knocking and thought it was someone wanting to enter the room! Also footsteps were heard on several occasions.

Other team members saw a shadow and we had various interesting and peculiar Emf / temperature and Ultra Sound readings.

All In all we thoroughly enjoyed our night at the First and Last Inn with many highlights to tell. Without jumping to any conclusions or making grand sweeping statements… this place really does seem to point to a haunting. The footsteps along with other phenomenon, which happened during the night, were certainly intriguing! I think we all hope we get the chance to spend some more time here in the near future. Our heart-felt thanks go out to the management team for allowing us to investigate their wonderful public house; we wish them every success in the future and hope to one day to work with them again!

They were then contacted by BBC Spotlight to feature them in a follow up short story on the inn and it's colourful ghost stories.
